Cairns Northern Beaches

The Cairns Northern Beaches stretch from residential Machans and Holloways beaches to Port Douglas along the scenic Captain Cook Highway.

Machans & Holloways Beach
Machans and Holloways Beach are the closest beaches to Cairns city but due to their proximities to the Cairns International Airport flight path, they have remained mainly residential, yet charmingly quaint beaches.

Yorkeys Knob Beach
Yorkey’s Knob is home to a marina, golf course and has a couple of accommodation choices close to the beach. It is also the place to go if you want to add some adventure to your gay holiday in Cairns by trying your hand at kite surfing!

Trinity Beach
Trinity Beach is probably the first of the ‘tourist’ beaches, and has a range of holiday apartments near or on the beach, a hotel, and a selection of restaurants. Behind the beach is Earl Hill – which is known as the Hollywood of Cairns. There are some exclusive holiday houses for rent up in the gated community, where you can sit in luxury and look out over the beach and the Coral Sea.

Kewarra & Clifton Beach
Kewarra and Clifton beaches are ideal for gay visitors seeking a quieter pace with a stylish resort at Kewarra and apartments at Clifton beach.

Palm Cove
One of Cairns major attractions is the luxury resort beach of Palm Cove. With major five-star resorts, holiday accommodation and a golf course, this is some of the most expensive real estate in the Cairns region. Their beach front is one of the most charismatic of the far north with winding pathways and colourful business fit-outs. It’s a great place to swim, lounge under the shade of the palm trees, or to eat fish and chips in the evening. If you don’t feel like leaving, book a room online at stunning Palm Cove Tropical Apartments with the discount code “GO2” for 15% off!

Ellis Beach & Buchan’s Point
A five-minute drive north of Palm Cove is Ellis Beach, and as stunning as it is, many gay locals walk south along the water to Buchan’s Point. It’s a popular “clothes optional” beach which is well protected and is known to be more popular with the gay locals, travellers, and The Cairns Sunboys (a nude social group for gay men).

North to Port Douglas
From Ellis Beach, the Captain Cook Highway winds along an awe inspiring coastal range north – one of Australia’s greatest drives – towards Port Douglas and Mossman. There are a number of great beaches along the way, including the regions famous Gay Resort – Turtle Cove. With their own private beach, and delicious cocktails – you may just decide to stay longer than anticipated. If that’s the case, book online and use our discount code “FNQ” for 10% off!
